No one\u2019s entirely <\/em>sure where the ugly Christmas sweater craze came from.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The best guess we can come up with, according to Thoughtco<\/a>, is that it originated sometime in the 80s, through a combination of sitcoms and mass-produced \u201cjingle bell\u201d sweaters. We also know that the Canadian city of Vancouver claims to be the site of the first ugly Christmas sweater party, held at the Commodore Ballroom in 2002. The two co-founders of the now-annual event, Chris Boyd and Jordan Birch, have even reportedly placed a trademark on the phrase \u201cugly Christmas sweater.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Regardless of how our obsession with these visual horrors came to be, ugly Christmas sweaters are now as beloved a part of our holiday tradition as eggnog and mistletoe. Buying them is a great, oddly romantic couple\u2019s activity. Many workplaces even host regular ugly sweater competitions around the holidays.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

With that in mind, we\u2019ve taken the time to gather some of our favorite horrendous designs. Have a look, and see if any of them inspire you to do worse. If so, you can try your hand at throwing something together in our design studio<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

  1. One For The Office<\/a><\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    Let\u2019s be honest, our list wouldn\u2019t be complete without at least one Office reference.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    1. Apparently, We\u2019re All About The Callouts Today<\/a><\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

      But realistically, if there\u2019s any sitcom that\u2019d have a lock on ugly Christmas sweaters, it would be Seinfeld.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

      1. Technically This One\u2019s A Vest<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

        …But it\u2019s still ugly enough to have made the cut regardless.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

        1. We Aren\u2019t Even Sure What To Say About This<\/a><\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

          We suppose it\u2019s a good choice if you like both tacos and basketball?\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

            And no, we\u2019re not apologizing for that pun.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

            1. For Anyone Who Wants To Moonlight As A Dart Board\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

              We won\u2019t be held responsible for any injuries suffered as a result.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

              1. Reindeers<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

                We\u2019re certain that if you show up wearing this abomination, plenty of people will ask you to rein it in.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

                1. For One of Those<\/em> Couples\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

                  You know. The ones who are attached at the hip. Now they can literally <\/em>be attached.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

                  1. Something You Cannot Unsee<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

                    Merry Christmas, and Happy Nightmares.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

                    1. Tacky Tinsel<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

                      At least you\u2019ll draw some eyes with this one?\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

                      1. Spritzen The Fresh-Nosed Reindeer\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

                        Because nothing says Christmas better than poop, apparently.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

                        1. Human Holiday<\/a><\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

                          We\u2019d say this one is probably the ugliest on the list. We\u2019re not even certain there\u2019s much point in continuing from here.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

                          1. Chewbacca\u00a0<\/a><\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

                            Remember the Star Wars Christmas Special? We don\u2019t want to, either.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

                            1. The Hairy Chest<\/a><\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

                              We don\u2019t really have any words for this one. There are no words to do it justice.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

                              1. Dino Christmas<\/a><\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

                                It\u2019s a pair of T-Rexes drinking in Santa hats. What\u2019s not to like?<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
