Gildan 64000 vs Bella + Canvas 3001: Which One Prints and Wears Better?

Gildan 64000 vs Bella + Canvas 3001: Which One Prints and Wears Better?

Posted on April 23, 2026 by mcoffeyblue

The Gildan 64000 and Bella + Canvas 3001 are both lightweight, soft, and popular for custom printing. It’s easy to assume the choice comes down to brand preference. In reality, the difference shows up in how they fit, how they drape, and how they wear over time. Another key difference is price; Gildan tends to be more budget-friendly, while Bella + Canvas comes at a premium due to its softer fabric and more retail-style construction.

How Gildan 64000 and Bella + Canvas 3001 Compare

The difference is subtle, but it shows up everywhere: from the fit and drape to how the shirt feels once it’s on.

Fit and Shape

The Gildan 64000 is labeled as a “modern classic fit,” which is basically Gildan’s way of saying: not boxy like the 5000, but not tailored either. It hangs straight, doesn’t cling, and works across many body types.

The Bella + Canvas 3001 is more intentional. The side seams pull the shirt in slightly through the torso, and the shoulders sit cleaner. It’s not tight, but it’s noticeably more fitted. You look a bit more put together in it without trying, but that also means sizing matters more. When it fits well, it looks great; when it doesn’t, you feel and see it immediately.

Fabric Feel and Softness

The Gildan 64000 shirt uses ring-spun cotton with a lighter weight, so it feels soft but still has a bit of structure to it. It’s the kind of softness that gets better after a few washes.

The Bella + Canvas 3001 meanwhile is made from Airlume combed cotton, which removes more impurities; it’s smoother and almost slightly silky compared to the Gildan tee. You put it on and it already feels like a shirt you’ve owned for years, in a good way. One small downside we’ve noticed: that ultra-soft feel can run a bit warmer, especially in humid weather. It’s not a dealbreaker, but it’s noticeable if you’re sensitive to heat.

Drape and How It Sits on Your Body

The Gildan 64000 hangs straight down. No side seams means it doesn’t contour much, so it keeps that relaxed silhouette. That’s great for larger groups, mixed sizing, and situations where consistency matters more than style. But it also means it doesn’t elevate the look much.

The Bella + Canvas 3001 drapes closer to your body. The side seams and finer fabric give it a bit more movement and shape. It follows your frame without clinging, which is why it feels more like retail apparel than a blank tee. It’s the one you’d wear out, not just keep as a backup shirt.

Print Quality and Surface

Both print well, but they behave differently depending on the design. The Gildan 64000 has a high-stitch density and smooth enough surface for consistent results. It handles standard prints without issues, and it’s forgiving. If your design is bold, simple, or high coverage, it’ll do the job without surprises.

The Bella + Canvas 3001 gives you a cleaner canvas. Because the fabric is finer and smoother, details come through sharper. Fine lines, smaller text, and more intricate designs tend to look better on it. The tradeoff is that with heavier prints, you’ll feel the ink more, especially on larger designs.

Durability and Wear Over Time

The Gildan 64000 is built to be worn without much care. It holds its shape well, and because of the slightly more structured feel, it doesn’t show wear as quickly. It’s the kind of shirt that survives repeated washes without much change.

The Bella + Canvas 3001 holds up well too. It keeps its shape thanks to the side seams, but the softer fabric means it shows wear a bit sooner.

Final Verdict

These two sit in the same category, but they have slightly different appeals.

When Gildan 64000 makes more sense:

  • You’re ordering for a group and need sizing to be easy
  • You want a lightweight tee that still feels stable
  • Your design is bold, simple, or high coverage
  • You need something reliable that people won’t overthink
  • You’re working with a tighter budget or ordering in bulk

When Bella + Canvas 3001 is the better choice:

  • The shirt itself matters as much as the print
  • You want a more retail, wearable feel
  • Fit and silhouette are part of the decision
  • Your design has finer detail or needs a cleaner finish
  • You’re willing to pay more for a softer, more retail-style shirt

Once you know how the shirt is going to be used, the choice makes itself.
